There’s always something happening in this corner of Wiltshire. From summer festivals and days at the races to extraordinary gatherings at Stonehenge and festive days out, Glebe House makes a lovely base for making a weekend, or a little longer, of it.
Here are some of our favourites.

Chalke History Festival
June · Broad Chalke
One of the highlights of our year, and almost on our doorstep.
Our family lives in the Chalke Valley and we spend a lot of time at Chalke History Festival each summer, often popping in most days during festival week. We can genuinely say it is a brilliant day out, whether you are passionate about history or simply looking for something interesting to do.
There are exceptional speakers, live performances, music in the evenings and living history to wander around and discover. Children can get involved too, with immersive experiences including the recreated Second World War trench. There is so much going on that you can happily spend the day exploring without attending a single talk.
The festival runs for a full week, making Glebe House a particularly convenient countryside base if you are coming for several days.
The Solstices at Stonehenge
June and December
Twice a year, people travel from around the world to gather at Stonehenge for the summer and winter solstices. We have welcomed a number of guests coming specifically for the occasion, and Glebe House makes a peaceful countryside base for the experience.
Access arrangements vary each year, so check the official Stonehenge information before travelling.
A day at Salisbury Races
Spring and summer
A day at Salisbury Racecourse is a great excuse to gather a group of friends and make a weekend of it. There are regular meetings throughout the warmer months, including afternoon racing, evening fixtures and special events.
Enjoy the racing, head out for dinner afterwards, then come home to Glebe House.

Salisbury International Arts Festival
Late May and June
Each year Salisbury comes alive with theatre, music, dance, outdoor performances and events across the city.
The programme changes every year, so have a look at what is happening during your stay and combine it with lunch, dinner or a wander around the Cathedral Close.

Salisbury 800: a very special year in 2027
Throughout 2027
2027 marks 800 years since Salisbury received its Royal Charter, with a special programme of exhibitions, performances and celebrations taking place across the city.
If you are planning a Wiltshire stay in 2027, it is well worth checking what is happening while you are here.

Shaftesbury Fringe
July
For one summer weekend, the beautiful hilltop town of Shaftesbury fills with music, comedy, theatre and performances in all sorts of unexpected venues.
Make a day of it and explore Shaftesbury too, with its independent shops and cafés, famous Gold Hill and wonderful views across the Blackmore Vale.
Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show
August
A proper countryside day out with livestock, horses, countryside displays, local food and drink, shopping and plenty for children.
It is a particularly good option for families or anyone who enjoys the rural side of Wiltshire and Dorset.
End of the Road Festival
Early September · Larmer Tree Gardens
Set in the beautiful Larmer Tree Gardens, End of the Road is an independent music and arts festival with a wonderfully distinctive atmosphere.
Alongside the music you will find comedy, literature, cinema, workshops and food. If you are heading to the festival but fancy swapping camping for proper beds and hot showers, Glebe House makes a very comfortable alternative.
Rockbourne Fair
October · Salisbury Racecourse
A favourite early Christmas shopping event, bringing together independent boutiques and artisan makers at Salisbury Racecourse.
It is a lovely excuse for a pre-Christmas break with friends. Shop during the day, find somewhere good for supper and come back to Glebe House for an evening by the fire.

Sarum Lights at Salisbury Cathedral
November
Each autumn, Salisbury Cathedral is transformed by Sarum Lights, an immersive light and sound experience with spectacular projections filling the Cathedral.
The theme changes each year, so check the Cathedral programme for dates and tickets during your stay.

Longleat Festival of Light
November to January
Longleat’s spectacular Festival of Light fills the estate with enormous illuminated installations and lanterns.
It is a wonderful winter day out, particularly with children, before returning to Glebe House for a cosy evening.
Event dates and programmes change from year to year, so we always recommend checking with the organisers before making plans.
